Gary Walters’ roots are in the Mississippi
Delta. His father, George, also an artist, was from Greenwood. Gary has painted thousands of watercolors since
he was a small boy. Many of them are inspired by the Delta. However, the real subject of his paintings are color
and shape. Gary is a Christian artist and a native of Jackson, Mississippi. He attended Hinds Community College
where he won honors as the school’s most outstanding art student. While attending Mississippi College, Walters
received the Bellaman Award for the most creative art student.
Walters earned his bachelor’s and master’s
degrees from Mississippi College. Over the past 35 years Walters has had numerous one-man shows and has taught art on
every level. In 1993 he was honored as the Art Alumnus of the Year for Mississippi College. “I consider
each work of art as an adventure or trip I’ve never been on before. The subject is mainly an inspiration point.
If an artist makes a valid statement it comes from the artist’s knowledge, skill, and above all—his heart.”
