Delta Dreamin’ Captures the Beauty of the Mississippi Delta
Foreword by Sam Gore
Brandon, MS— Mississippi native and renowned landscape artist, Gary Walters, has spent a lifetime painting the Mississippi Delta. He has selected eighty-eight of these paintings, along with drawings and sketches to be included in a new book to be published by Quail Ridge Press on September 5th, 2008. Lonesome dirt roads, flat farmland with deserted shanties along with a variety of other Delta scenes are captured in the brilliantly colorful style that Walters is known for.
Noted teacher, Sam Gore, says in his introduction to the book: “Gary Walters has superbly achieved the essence of my Delta with a flow of merging watercolor, lines, shapes, and selectively simplified forms…a symphony of color and art elements, celebrating in his own way Delta Dreamin’.”
The first official launch of the book will be held at TurnRow Books in Greenwood on Thursday, September 18th, 5:00 pm–8:00 pm during the Arts Alfresco event. Numerous other book signings will occur throughout the fall.
Delta Dreamin’ continues the publisher's goal of showcasing Mississippi artists painting Mississippi scenes.

About the author:
Gary Walters’ roots are in the Mississippi Delta. His father George, also an artist, was from Greenwood. Gary Walters has painted thousands of watercolors since he was a small boy, many of them inspired by the Delta. The real subject of his paintings, however, are color and shape. Gary Walters is a Christian artist and a native of Jackson, Mississippi. He attended Hinds Community College where he won honors as the school’s most outstanding art student.
Over the past 35 years, Gary Walters has had numerous one-man shows and has taught art on every level. In 1993 he was honored as the Art Alumnus of the Year for Mississippi College. Gary Walters said, “I consider each work of art as an adventure or trip I’ve never been on before. The subject is mainly an inspiration point. If an artist makes a valid statement it comes from the artist’s knowledge, skill, and above all—his heart.”
